How to Join the DFW Leather Corps

Here is the process of becoming a member of the DFW leather Corps. New applicants should read the following carefully.

Exclusivity:

We believe in the concept of exclusivity. Those who are merely looking for another group for social interaction or a club patch rarely make long term club members.

This is a concern for our club. Our efforts are directed to establishing a Leather community. To do this we must look to people who have genuine interest and have a dedicated willingness to work to that goal. That means they are willing to adapt to our form and structure and are joining with the idea of being a long term member.

There will be those who will not fit into our club. It is a matter of their personal preference. It may be that we are not “their cup of tea”. This is a good thing.

Your understanding of our club rules, its form, and structure will help you to make those decisions that are best for you.

Exclusivity does not mean purism. There is no such thing as the true Leather way or “only” Leather club. There are other avenues into Leather. Being supportive of the other avenues is part of the Leather tradition. They provide options for those who are not a compatible fit here.

Restrictive Membership:

The DFW Leather Corps has a restrictive membership policy. There are people who will not be eligible for membership in the DFW Leather Corps.

Sex Offenders

Individuals who have been convicted and are listed as Sex Offenders are subject to a review of their situation. Convictions of rape, molestation and pedophilia immediately disqualify you from membership with the DFW Leather Corps.

If you are an individual seeking membership, fall under this category, and have extenuating circumstances you want reviewed reveal this fact to Master Thunder or Master Walker.

Sex Workers

The term “Sex Worker” is an umbrella term describing the overall sex industry. The industry is divided into categories such as phone sex operator, Pro-Dominatrix, adult store owner, prostitute etc.

Most sex workers qualify for membership in the DFW leather Corps.

However those involved in the physical act of sex for money such as prostitution are ineligible for membership.

Drugs

The use of non-prescription drugs are not allowed at any DFWLC event or gathering.

Vetting Potential Members

Individuals seeking membership should understand that The DFW Leather Corp has a vetting process for applicants.

Your community reputation means something here. We check references.

The sad truth about today’s communities is that we have individuals who have proven they are problematic, toxic or dangerous by their actions. The reference system is designed to act as a filter.

Sponsored Membership

In yesterday's leather clubs it was rare to be tuned down but it did happen. Typically new people had several months in or around the club. People got to know them and their personal references or their “last community” background check insured their memberships.

We expect this to be the norm in the DFW Leather Corps.

Here is how the membership process works.

1. Guests are welcome to attend two to four regular meetings before being asked to make a decision about joining the DFW Leather Corps. A guest is brought to club meetings by DFW Leather Corps members. You may request an invitation by emailing the membership coordinator.

If a guest would like to join, a DFW Leather Corps member in good standing may sponsor the individual into the club.

A. The sponsoring member simply emails Master Thunder or Master Walker; making it known they are sponsoring their guest. They provide the guest’s name and email address.

B. Upon receipt of this notice, a reference and vetting process will be initiated. We simply let the guest know that their application is being processed and we will get back in touch with them.

C. The new member will be emailed a leather survey and asked to fill it out and return it to us.

D. Based on the answers provided we will have an answer about membership within two weeks. The determining factor to membership in the club is based on the prospects pattern of behavior over time. It is an easy and straightforward process. Most applicants are accepted.

E. If yan application is turned down, both the sponsoring club member and the applicant will be told the specific reason why. We expect that information to be held in confidence. Our policy is to release no information about applicants applying to the DFW Leather Corps.

F. When a new member is accepted into the DFW leather Corps a ranking process is initiated. If the prospect is new to Leather, they enter in at the first level. They have all the rights accorded to members and are expected to work within the Leather Corps’ tribal structure

G. If a member has a Leather or BDSM background, we use the Leather survey to determine their rank according their time and experience in the Leather community.

Inclusiveness

For us, inclusiveness means setting up a social environment where people with a sincere desire to learn and practice Leather can enter and find a welcoming home.

All Leather people are welcome regardless of sexual orientation. This is a common meeting place for Leather people - Gay Males, Heterosexuals, Lesbians, Bi-people and Trans-gender/sexual people.

Our common bond is living in leather. It is our belief that the Leather culture transcends sexual orientation and its traditional values creates a common ground for us to prosper together.

Leather leaders have always wrestled with the issue of balance between exclusivity and inclusiveness. We believe you can have a balance of both.
